Listening to the mood music to Sharm el Sheikh it's quite clear that this is a much more muted conference to date than that. in Glasgow a year ago, when there was much optimism in the hydrogen sector and some of the major contentions centred around the controversial development of the Cambo oilfield in Shetland.
The war in the Ukraine, the energy shock and dismal Truss interlude in the UK pushed there the energy security agenda backup the agenda and the increasing prices lead to something of a sobering reality in the energy sector.

On the brighter side, some of the progress made comes, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, from Africa.
There have been UK announcements around support for projects in Kenya and projects in Mauritania have been cited in panel discussions.
We've seen developments elsewhere in Mauritania
and Namibia

I've already shared with the community and more recently, South Africa with a proactive alignment of mineral companies and the finance community are driving things forwards:

So, a muted conference so far albeit with signs of solid but unspectacular progress in the hydrogen sector and with projects now in the public domain. These projects need build out rather than being announced in the press.
Elsewhere, plenty of talk of delivering on commitments made by the Western countries and underlying concerns around charges of hypocrisy around things such as their own abatement, telling others to change without to leading from the front with private jet usage a good example of doing what I say rather than what I do!
