Five ways that everyone can lower their carbon footprint:

  1. Slow down – driving at excessive speeds and quick accelerations can reduce mileage by as much as 33%.
  2. Combine errands – Try to run errands only when you have several and then plan a circular route to minimize driving distance.
  3. Check your thermostat – Don’t set your thermostat too high or too low and definitely invest in a programmable model that allows you to set different temperatures at different times of the day and night.
  4. Eat locally – It has been estimated that 13% of greenhouse gas emissions come from the production and transport of food. Eat locally grown and/or organic food when possible.
  5. Check your tires – properly inflated tires can improve your gas mileage by up to 3%. That may not seem like much but if everyone did it, it would make a significant difference.
