"If we don't get the clouds right, we won't get the climate right," says Charel Wohl, ICM-CSIC researcher and lead author of the study. "We are just beginning to unveil the multiple ingredients that form cloud seeds," he adds.
Water is by far the most important greenhouse gas and its effects are difficult to model as it is both a greenhouse gas and a solar reflector with effects varying with altitude, cloud type, day or night presence, ++. Water modelling was a large part of the reason the catastrophists would not show their data to other scientists questioning the catastrophic consequences of atmospheric temperature rise.Â
We have accelerated the conversion of hydrogen and carbon to their oxides and are focusing excessively on the latter. We are adding large amounts of water to the atmosphere from the conversion of hydrogen and from the heat that is the ultimate result of our processes. Hydrogen and our overall heat addition to the environment should not get a bye.Â
We know of periods (PETN)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleocene%E2%80%93Eocene_Thermal_Maximum when Earth's atmosphere was 7C higher and CO2 concentration was 5X greater resulting in a lush tropical Earth and an explosion of mammals. There is reason to question the catastrophists; we need rational debate.Â
Freeman Dyson was a prominent scientist studying the effects of atmospheric CO2 long before the arrival of the catastrophists and he believed the effects of increasing atmospheric CO2 would be overall positive. Dyson questioned the the models used by the catastrophists, including his friend Jim Hansen who developed a model that predicted thermal runaway if the temperature was increased by a few degrees and it led to much of the current craziness.
Catastrophists have a long history and are great fodder for a pernicious media but their predictions should typically be filed under "Adults say the darndest things" rather than granted worldwide exposure.Â
