Last week, I was able to join 135,000 of my closest friends at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. More than 4,300 exhibitors located across 2.5+ million square feet of exhibits were there to show off their technology. In addition to exhibitors, technology leaders across a multitude of industries spoke about how their companies are using technology to help define the future.
I was fortunate to be able to attend this year to see how technology is impacting a couple of important industries for TVA including construction, electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles, clean technology, food technology, semiconductors, and software development. I want to share a few quick takeaways that I got from attending this year:
* It was really cool seeing companies residing within the TVA service area, like Bridgestone Americas, Kohler Co., FORVIA, and more, showing off their amazing technology solutions.
* Artificial intelligence was everywhere throughout the conference, and they all had unique use cases. One that stuck out in particular was Elevance Health, which is exploring how AI can help individuals navigate the healthcare system.
* When it comes to mobility, companies are exploring more hydrogen technology for longer-range vehicles while also looking at more ways to add battery life, such as utilizing lightweight materials and optimizing power flow throughout the vehicle.
* Sustainability continues to be a major focus for many companies, and they are looking at ways to make their products more energy-efficient to help reduce their carbon footprint. More solutions for on-site generation using solar and hydrogen and grid stability technology are being introduced.
*HD Hyundai is known for its shipbuilding, but it introduced a lot of amazing technology to support the construction industry. They are partnering with Google Cloud for their construction site management platform while also developing autonomous and electric construction equipment with their robotic partners.
* I listened to the L'Oréal keynote and how they are using technology to assist their customers. They showed a demo of their AI assistant, ModiFace, which helps with skin diagnostics. They also sold me on their ColorSonic product--I want to try to dye my hair using it!

If you do plan to attend next year’s event, my one piece of advice is to bring some comfortable walking shoes!
