Canadian Pacific Kansas City Deploys First Hydrogen Locomotive for Mainline Service 

 

  • Canadian Pacific Kansas City's hydrogen locomotive CP1201 and its tender are now in regular mainline service, emitting only water vapor and warm air.
  • The deployment includes the use of a new fixed hydrogen locomotive fueling station outside Alberta, marking a significant step in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The locomotive, part of CPKC's efforts to develop North America's first zero-emission hydrogen-powered unit, is being tested in challenging real-world operating conditions in collaboration with Elk Valley Resources.
