In this edition of the #MyEnergyLife Series, we feature Isimbi Uwase Olga, a SCADA Engineer at REG-EUCL in Rwanda, whose career has focused on strengthening power distribution networks through automation and digital technologies.
From her early work as a Distribution Management System Engineer to her current role supporting Rwanda’s Grid Automation Project, Olga is contributing to the integration of SCADA and ADMS technologies, network modelling, telemetry, feeder automation, and real-time monitoring to improve grid visibility, reliability, and operational efficiency.
Her journey has also involved navigating the realities of working in a traditionally male-dominated field. Through persistence, confidence, and a commitment to developing her technical skills, Olga has continued to grow while creating space for other women to see themselves in technical careers within the energy sector.
For Olga, modernising Rwanda’s electricity network is about more than adopting new technologies. It is about building a power system that can serve homes, businesses, and communities more reliably while creating a smarter foundation for the country's energy future.
Her advice to young professionals entering the sector is simple: stay curious, keep learning, embrace challenges, and believe in your abilities.
