The Brazilian power sector "environment"

When a clown moves into a palace he doesn’t become a king, the palace instead becomes a circus. — Turkish proverb

The Brazilian electricity sector environment has been - for many years - truly a circus!

In the summer, the official peak hours of late afternoon and early evening did NOT correspond to what was actually observed (peak in the middle of the afternoon)!

The  crony projects (power plants without cost meritocracy) are still a strong business, as shown in the economic news.

Power theft are alive and well, representing more than 10% of all energy produced in the country.

The decision to prioritize run-of-river plants instead of those with reservoirs brought more volatility to the electricity sector.

The strategy of making wind and solar plants important in our matrix aggravated the need for new and much more expensive thermal plants.

The main problem is that we, Brazilians, seem to like circuses. If it weren't so, we would take action!
