Biden IRA Electricity Industry Money Out Of Reach Of Small Utilities

The CEO of a small, rural electric co-op in Colorado says the federal money in the Inflation Reduction Act to accelerate utility adoption of renewable energy systems says that money comes with so many requirements as to make it nearly impossible for small, rural and cooperative electric utilities to take advantage of the funding. If the utilities cannot take advantage of that funding, they are so small that they will likely fail the Environmental Protection Agency's potential rules about phasing out fossil fuels. If that deadline arrives and smaller utilities still cannot obtain the federal money, Marks worries that there will be a lot people throughout the country who experience rolling blackouts as utilities are unable to meet demand with only renewable energy.ย
