A week ago, I posted about the impact methane has on climate change. Although it only represents about 16% of greenhouse gas emissions, its potency elevates the damage it does.
Interestingly, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA) the largest source of methane (33%) is nature - in the form of wetlands. Fossil fuels - at about 22% - are a large man-made source. However, at around 25%, livestock is the second largest source.
Jeff Bezos of Amazon fame has created the Bezos Earth Fund which is allocating funds to research a scalable method to reduce the amount of methane livestock (mostly cows) produce. Check out the presentation to understand the magnitude of the cattle industry and how the Bezos Fund is attempting to - at least in part - mitigate methane emissions.
