Today's lithium-ion battery packs add a thousand pounds or more of weight to electric vehicles. Wny because gasoline is 100 times more energy dense than lithium-ion batteries which have to make up the difference in volume to achieve the same inertia. But a promising new lithium-air battery has 400% greater energy density than lithium-ion which means the power it produces can approach gasoline, A lithium-air battery of similar weight and size to current lithium-ion Tesla battery packs would hasten the transition of the transportation sector to EVs/  Â
