It's become tradition at this point, recognizing those community members who's habits of going the extra mile really keep our platform vibrant and valuable.
I'm talking, of course, about our Monthly Top Contributors!
Each month, we spotlight three individuals who made a meaningful difference—whether by consistently sparking thoughtful dialogue, offering deep industry perspective, or stepping onto the scene and immediately making an impact:
Grid Builder of the Month
Power User of the Month
Rising Star of the Month
And now, let’s celebrate the members who helped set the tone in May 2026 👇
Grid Builder of the Month: Cesar De Abreu
For starting the conversation that generated the most engagement across the Energy Central platform.

John Benson: Since I live in an area (SF Bay Area) with some of the highest electric prices in the U.S., I confronted this problem a couple of years ago with a solar roof, and a small (10 Mwh) battery energy storage system (BESS). Since then, my electric bill (from PG&E) has been close to zero.
Unfortunately, not so much my winter gas bill. However, andromorphic climate change (plus our existing very mild winters) are reducing the gas bill, so I will ignore it for now.
I did post my adventures with my residences' solar energy + BESS in Energy Central. Start with the link below and step back to the earlier posts (via links in each post) to see the other three parts.
Rooftop Solar Energy Tug of War, Part 4, Final Resolution
Several years of ownership of the PV+BESS, outside of the expected savings, have been a non-event. However, I have noted that more and more houses in my neighborhood are sprouting PV additions (sorry, PG&E).
Power User of the Month: Atul Pandurang Joshi
For driving community discussion with the most thoughtful and active commenting this month.
Notable Comments:
On Data centers: NERC (effectively) declares an emergency. The Bezos Post says, “Don’t worry, be happy!”: Tom, you raise an important point that the NERC alert addresses today’s risks but not the scale and speed of what’s coming. The real challenge isn’t just reliability — it’s the combination of runaway load growth, rising customer bills, and uncoordinated “temporary” generation filling the gap.
On From Dystopian Data Centers to Dinner Tables: PJM States' Families Pay the Tech Windfall Price: It is deeply frustrating to see everyday households footing the bill for infrastructure upgrades that primarily benefit multi-billion-dollar tech giants. If hyperscale data centers are the ones creating this unprecedented demand on the PJM grid, shouldn’t they be the ones legally required to pay for 100% of the transmission and cooling infrastructure? It’s time to rethink regulatory policies before local families are entirely priced out of their basic utilities.
Rising Star of the Month: Doug Starfield
