Angra 3
As always, the Brazilian electricity sector is faced with incredible decisions due to the lack of focus on what is best for the country.
Angra 3 - a nuclear power plant project - is halfway through. It is not ready despite having been started in the 1980s.
If it were to be completed, investments would have to be made. If the project were to be abandoned, a loss would have to be assumed (resources already invested). In both scenarios, this would be several USD billions.
And to make matters worse, if the decision were to end the project, the price of the energy produced would be USD 100/MWh and that the current market price is USD 40/MWh, according to the BNDES (a Brazilian offical bank).
Our leaders - from the electricity sector and from the Judiciary, Legislative and Executive - made this "rider" possible. It is high time for a change. So that good technique, commitment to competitiveness, respect for the population and honesty of principles.
