New Hampshire leads the pack with two-year energy cost increases of $2,682 - a stark contrast to Arkansas’ $623 energy cost increases. 2020 – 2022 energy cost inflation is calculated using individual homeowner data drawn from the 7+ million record MAISY Residential Utility Customer Energy Use and Hourly Loads Databases. Energy costs include electricity, natural gas, fuel oil and propane along with commuting gasoline costs from 2020 t0 2022.
Summary results are shown below for the worst and best 10 states. Detailed results for all states and a description of the study are available at https://maisy.com/energy_cost_inflation.htm . Zip level data are available from the study author on request. State variations reflect “cost increases” rather than “price increases” reflecting the interaction of energy use and energy price increases (i.e., individual household commuting distance and increases in gasoline prices; dwelling energy use and fuel price increases).
