New Hampshire Republicans are coming for solar panel owners—with higher taxes—in the name of fairness. (Canary Media)
GOP lawmakers are pushing to repeal a 50-year-old property tax exemption for homes and businesses with solar, arguing that non-solar neighbors are unfairly subsidizing the “extreme minority” who have panels.
Critics say that argument is flimsy. In the town of Hudson, for example, the exemption covers just $2.2M out of a $5.1B tax base, meaning repealing it would have almost no effect on anyone’s tax rate.
