NEWS: Indiana governor seeks lower utility rates: ‘We can’t take it anymore.’

Indiana Gov. Mike Braun is pushing utilities to cut rates after bills jumped nearly 18% in the past year—the steepest rise in two decades. (Utility Dive)

  • Bills for NIPSCO customers spiked 26.7% this year, with CenterPoint (24.9%) and Duke (19.8%) close behind. AES is also seeking a new 13.5% hike by 2027 on top of next year’s 6% increase.

  • But: Analysts doubt Gov. Braun’s push will bring “meaningful” rate cuts or derail data center power plant plans.
