National Grid proposes more generous discount rates for low-income electric customers in Mass.

Massachusetts has some of the country’s highest electric rates.  Changes to the utility’s rate structure could make all the difference for low-income households this winter.  Some customers spend as much as 20 percent of their income on utilities.  Anything over 6 percent for utilities is considered energy-burdened.  This can put customers in danger of missing payments, additional late fees and in some cases, disconnection.  As the energy prices increase, how is your utility making changes to help the energy-burdened?
