Detail-oriented or generalist?
This question is often asked when I start interacting with a client in the energy sector. Another way of looking at this question is: "what is it about?".
The answers vary greatly from case to case! Two very different examples: In the initial meeting, the client defined with great precision and even detail what he wanted to be done. Install a small solar panel on the roof of the warehouse so that the company could publicize its environmental commitment. In another case, the CEO of a large industrial group told me to "pull the rabbit out of the hat" and present powerfully energy-saving solutions!
The difference between these cases is in the approach. In the first case, it is "detail-oriented". The client stated what the solution was without having first compared the alternatives. In the second, the desire was to know the "menu" of options so that he could make a well-informed decision.
Therefore, those who want to discover and capture the most interesting and convenient solutions need to map out the alternatives in order to then be able to choose those that fit best. It is a more robust, more difficult process, but generally much more successful. It is a conceptually important decision for the client.
