Vestas receives order for 42 MW for France

Vestas American Wind Technology, Inc. - 03.16.2010

Vestas has received a combined order for a total of 21 units of the V90-2.0 MW turbine. The order includes supply, installation, a VestasOnline® Business SCADA solution as well as a ten-year service agreement. Delivery of the turbines is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2010.

The projects are owned by the same European group and will be located in the north of France. At the customer’s request, additional details about the project ownership, exact location, etc. cannot be disclosed.

“We are very pleased to announce this contract, which illustrates the dynamism of Vestas in France and shows evidence that we are a reliable and trustworthy wind technology partner in the French market,” says Juan Araluce, President of Vestas Mediterranean.

“France benefits from the second highest wind potential in Europe. Wind energy has therefore a key role to play to ensure France meets its Grenelle1 and European objectives regarding the growth of renewable energies,” concludes Nicolas Wolff, General Manager of Vestas France.

The 21 turbines will produce approximately 122,700 MWh per year, saving the environment from more than 11,000 tons of CO2 on an annual basis. Furthermore, they will provide enough electricity to power more than 55,700 French households.

As of 31 December 2009, the Vestas Group has delivered more than 40,000 turbines and employs more than 20,700 people worldwide. Present on the French territory since 2000, Vestas today employs close to 200 people in France responsible for sales, construction, service and maintenance of Vestas’ turbines in the country. Based in Paris and in Pérols near Montpellier, Vestas has also established five maintenance centres in France. At the end of 2009, Vestas had delivered a total of 480 turbines equivalent to nearly 893 MW in France.
