In 1997, International Paper Company elected to purchase electricity based on a real-time pricing schedule at their Prattville Alabama facility. An advanced control system was designed and installed that automatically optimizes the purchase or generation of electricity depending on pricing and process constraints. These controls have been in continuous operations since 1998.
