THE BACKGROUND Cyber security is a huge issue in the smart grid and intelligent utility — and one that will not go away. The relationship between a smart grid and secure grid is as crucial to well being of individual communities as it is to the nation's security. The November/December issue of Intelligent Utility magazine focuses on the continuing battle between cyber security offense (like grid attackers and hackers) and defense (such as utility companies and security groups). View article. In conjunction, our January 7 webcast provides you with a personal look at how hackers can attack and utility security professionals can defend the grid. | THE DISCUSSION Join Intelligent Utility vice president and editor-in-chief H. Christine Richards, along with a group of security experts who will open up about their work to ensure the security of a smarter grid and a more intelligent utility. Reserve your seat for this free webcast that pries into the rapidly changing world of cyber security in the utility industry. By attending, you will: | • | Gain insight into the latest cyber security tactics on both the offense and defense sides of the battle. | | • | Identify the keys items to consider when looking at cyber security efforts for your company. | | • | Learn how other industries are securing their critical infrastructure and how those efforts can apply to the utility industry. | THE PANELISTS Kevin Brown Utility Communications Security Architect EnerNex | | Mike Davis Senior Security Consultant IOActive | | Erfan Ibrahim Technical Executive IntelliGrid Power Delivery and Utilization Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) | | Since coming to EnerNex, Kevin has focused his attention on the Advanced Security Acceleration Project for the Smart Grid (ASAP-SG) part of the Open Smart Grid Subcommittee of the UCA International Users Group in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and other interested parties, of which he is a member.
