Natural gas killed coal and now renewables and batteries are taking over
More natural gas and less coal seems to be a win for the environment but according to some studies, natural gas can also crowd out not just coal but also renewables. The 2014 study published in Environmental Research Letters speaks to this, with a focus on methane leakage from natural gas drilling reducing some of the gains of switching to a cleaner burning fossil fuel. Can an abundance of natural gas really slow down solar and wind adoption?
