The Biden administration has approved its 11th large-scale offshore wind project, SouthCoast Wind, solidifying its commitment to renewable energy. Backed by Ocean Winds, a joint venture of EDPR and ENGIE, the project is located 20 nautical miles south of Nantucket, Massachusetts, covering 127,388 acres. It will feature 141 turbines with a capacity of 2.4 GW, enough to power over 840,000 homes.
This approval reinforces the Biden administration's legacy in advancing offshore wind despite industry challenges like rising costs, supply chain issues, and construction delays. The project aims to deliver energy to New England by the end of the decade, contributing to job creation, emissions reduction, and energy independence.
SouthCoast Wind highlights the U.S.’s push for leadership in clean energy, setting the stage for future offshore wind initiatives.
