Plateau govt. initiates project to power public buildings with renewable energy

Power By Blessing Odega, Jos, Jan.11, 2019(NAN) The Plateau Government, through its Ministry of Water Resources and Energy, has initiated a Green City Project to power public buildings with renewable energy.
Mr David Wuyep, the Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Jos.
Wuyep said that the initiative was to move away from fossil based fuels such as coal and crude oil to the use of renewable energy to mitigate the effects of global warming.
He said that Green City Project was a solar powered scheme intended to power public buildings in the state.
He said that 25 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) had been surveyed and scheduled to have Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems installed to provide power.
The commissioner said that plans were in the works to ensure that villages in Plateau connected to the grid but with bad transformers were replaced and new ones installed to communities without electricity supply.
Wuyep said that the places to benefit from the project included Datti Zawan, Plateau Specialist hospital, and Ola hospital, Zawan.
