Parts of Sindh, Balochistan face power outage as Guddu power plant trips

KARACHI:11 units of Guddu Thermal Power Plant tripped on Friday morning causing power outages in large parts of Sindh and Balochistan. The plant had 16 units in total but five were already non-functional.

The tripping of 11 units led to a shortfall of 747MW of electricity. Liaquatabad, Sea One Area, Mehmoodabad, Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Orangi Town, Soldier Bazaar, Old City, Saddar and Defense View areas of the provincial capital faced power outages as well.

Foggy conditions were the primary reason behind the tripping, aNational Transmission and Dispatch Company spokesperson said. The spokesperson added that work to restore the electricity supply was currently underway.

Due to tripping in National Grid, power supply is affected to most parts of Sindh including Karachi. K-Electric's restoration efforts are underway.
