North Anna nuclear power plant to hold open house

Charlottesville Business Journal

The North Anna nuclear power plant in Mineral operated safely in 2018, according to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

To discuss the plant's performance and answer questions, the commission is having an open house May 2. The open house will run from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Mineral Municipal Building, located at 312 Mineral Ave. NRC employees responsible for plant inspections, including the inspectors who are based full-time at the site, will be available at the open house.

The plant has two units and is operated by Dominion Energy. In 2018, NRC inspection findings and performance indicators were "green," meaning of low safety significance. Thus, the plant still is under the NRC's normal level of oversight, which includes thousands of hours of inspection each year.
