Abu Dhabi - Morocco's energy strategy aims to strengthen its global leadership in renewable energy, said, on Monday in Abu Dhabi, Energy, Mining and Environment minister, Aziz Rabbah.

Speaking at a symposium on global, regional and local energy regimes at the Abu Dhabi International Oil Exhibition and Conference "ADIPEC-2019", Rabbah stressed that this proactive strategy, launched by HM King Mohammed VI in 2009, aims to give concrete expression to Morocco's commitment to increase the share of renewable energies in the national energy mix to 42 pc by 2020 and 52 pc by 2030.

This strategy is also meant to reduce energy bills and dependence, guarantee security of supply at affordable prices and combat climate change, he added, noting that Morocco's energy transition is based on strong political support, abundant renewable energy sources and the development of infrastructure, science and research, in addition to electricity interconnection policy with neighboring countries and international partnerships.

In this regard, the minister called for the promotion of energy-related industries to create more employment opportunities, underlining Morocco's openness to new intelligent storage techniques for renewable energy to benefit national and international markets.

He recalled that Morocco is working to develop the large-scale use of gas by encouraging exploration and the use of this product in energy production and industry, noting that the volume of investment in the energy sector in Morocco amounts to nearly 13 billion dollars, which has attracted many companies from different countries such as the UAE and Saudi Arabia as well as other States from Asia and America.
