China First 8 MW Offshore Wind Turbine Unveiled

Shanghai Electric's Shantou Intelligent Manufacturing Base has revealed Chinas first 8 MW offshore wind turbine. The manufactured turbine was presented at a 200-strong ceremony attended by developers, designers, researchers, and politicians on 2nd August 2019. The 8 MW offshore wind turbine will be installed in the Shantou Haojiang Wind Power Industrial Park, where the Shanghai Electric Demonstration Project is located.
Components of an 8 MW turbine with an 81.4 metre blade and a wind wheel diameter of 167 metres were displayed at the event, which also saw several cooperation agreements signed. Shanghai Electric Wind Power signed an agreement with China Mobile Communications Group Guangdong and Huawei Technologies to jointly promote 5G internet construction within the offshore wind manufacturing industry, exploring a concept known as "5G+ Smart Wind Power.
Shanghai Electric's contract with Siemens Gamesa, to license the SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbine, was signed back in March 2018. Under the agreement, Shanhai Electric will manufacture, sell, and install the turbines at offshore wind projects in mainland China's territorial waters.
