Not Frequently a Problem: How Load Affects Frequency

Many PQ monitors measure frequency with a 10 second average value but not phase relationship between the voltages and currents. Similar to the Energy Policy and Conservation Act, or EPCA, “Power factor” means the ratio of the real power to the apparent power. The true power factor (includes harmonic content) for a system is the combination of displacement power factor (fundamental frequency) and distortion power factor or Distortion PF is True PF (kW/kVA divided by the dPF). Power factor can be corrected with microsecond-accurate time stamps.
