There is a long-standing, systemic disconnect between the narratives put forth by official electric sector bodies and those of industrial customers.
On one hand, there is the claim that we are "top-notch" when it comes to energy. On the other, there is the harsh reality of production lines being—and having been—relocated to countries far more competitive than Brazil.
Through my consulting work with Brazilian and multinational industrial clients, I have witnessed this "exodus" firsthand. This is not an isolated incident, nor is it simply the fault of this or that administration. The core issue is the bloated nature of the electric sector, riddled with endless regulations and controlled by a massive, high-cost elite.
And the worst part is that the system is expensive yet fails to deliver the expected value. We rank among the world leaders in electricity theft. Taxes levied on utility bills are exorbitant. Unplanned power outages remain consistently high compared to our competitor nations.
What needs to happen for the much-needed change?
