Consider an example: currently, steam is generated in a low-pressure boiler and sent directly to the process. It is a simple, straightforward, and proven method.
The alternative—cogeneration—involves generating high-pressure steam, routing it through a back-pressure turbine to generate electricity, and then delivering the resulting low-pressure steam to the process.
