The utility plans to share these costs with customers by increasing rates. But consumers don’t agree that cleanup is part of services rendered or that the costs should be shared A key question here is how transparent was the utility when it was creating this coal ash in its licensing and permitting process. Were such high cleanup costs considered then?
Flexibility – in mindset and in action -- will be critical for efficiently and effectively operating a grid to maintain safety and reliability, but also to remain relevant with customers How much of the flexibility will be the purview of the utility and how much of this responsibility do you anticipate will be shifted to the consumers?
The equation is pretty straight forward. Trending in greater accuracy in forecasting will be tied directly to the growth of renewables, non carbons, and mandated quotas. The greater the reliance on these new energy sources the greater potential for instability and the need for precise generation and load forecasting.
