Expanding Data Centers Drive Microgrid Interest
Growth in data center processing requirements and the move to renewables will help to spark more microgrid deployments, according to market research firm Navigant Research. In 2018, service provider data centers are expected to add nearly 7,000 MW of capacity—the fastest pace of expansion recorded. Many of these centers rely on inefficient assets that often carry a large carbon footprint. Hence they appear to be ripe for an upgrade. How much of an increase are you seeing in data center electricity requirements? Do you think such demand will impact the renewable market?
