Legislators want to make Minnesota the fourth state in the country to set a 100 percent clean energy plan by 2050. Some electric companies and legislators called the idea an unreliable way to power the state and others expressed concerns about the reliability of renewable energy during extreme weather. Are they setting the bar too high, too fast or are they long overdue for regulatory change? What have utilities in similar climates done to increase renewable options and decrease carbon emissions?
