Four senators and two members of the House introduced the Internet of Things (IoT) Cybersecurity Improvement Act of 2019, according to Navigant Research. The proposed bill would require minimum security standards for any IoT devices used by the federal government, and would base these standards on recommendations from the National Institute of Standards and Technology. However, the law is limited in scope and may not be passed. Does the US need such laws? Why or why not? Do you think they will pass? Why or why not?
