Book - GIS for Enhanced Electric Utility Performance

Approved to Use

A while back I wrote a book on "GIS for Enhanced Electric Utility Performance".  This book describes how geospatial technology in the form of a modern enterprise geographic information system (GIS) can be applied to all aspects of the electric utility business from Smart Grid to generation to transmission to distribution to the retail supply of electricity to customers. This book appeals to readers that are interested not only in the technical details of a GIS enabled electric system, but also how such a system works in the real business world.

I thought some members of the community may be interested in reading.

What a great resouce to know about, Bill. I'm curious-- since this book was published in 2013, what would be the most significant change that you would want to update a chapter/page/section on if you could?

Hi Matt,

Three things:

1) The broad use of web services and mobile technology. The advancement in GIS technology has been significant.

2) Digital transformation - certainly, the industry is going through a significant change - yet the workflows for day to day operations remain pretty much the same.  My blogs tend to highlight these concepts.

3) The drive toward decarbonization and distributed energy resources has mushroomed since then.

Working on a new book!

Thanks for the response Bill, and good luck on the new book as well!
