The US Energy Grid Is Making Electric Cars Dirtier Than They Should Be
EmissionsIndex.org will soon provide public quarterly US carbon emissions data. There is no doubt that electric vehicles are benefiting our environment. But to significantly reduce CO2 emissions in the U.S. it seems we’ll have to do more than trade in our gas-guzzlers for electric vehicles. We’ll have to decarbonize the grid that powers those vehicles. If only 15% of electricity production derives from renewables, your new EV could be more dependent on fossil fuels than you realize.
