ERCOT announced that on the morning of Jan. 3 it surpassed its previous winter peak demand record by a whopping 3,200 megawatts of electricity. Despite the increased demand driven by this week's frigid temperatures, "there were sufficient generation and transmission resources available to keep up with demand," ERCOT's senior director of system operations said.
