For renewable energy to achieve its full potential, its not just about getting wind and solar generation online. An area that's often overlooked but is critically important is transmission. If the energy supply chain is looked at as generation, transmission and then distribution to end-users, each portion of that plays a critical role in the success of the system. In the world of wind however, a recently releaseed report by the Wind Energy foundation says that we face this very problem. As much as 51,000 MW of renewable energy could fail to reach the market if transmission networks are not expanded. What areas of the country are facing the biggest trasmission shortfalls?
