ProPublica tees up nicely an impending decision in New Jersey on clean-energy incentives for the nuclear power plants operating in the state. Personally, the comprehensive reporting I'm interested to see is a story examining the thoughts of lawmakers, utility executives and environmental activists in the swath of Southeastern states where there are a bunch of nuclear power plants but no renewable portfolio standards. Inevitably, RPS mandates are coming, in my view (or will they be broader clean-energy mandates?) and their upward ratcheting in states like California has affected the ability of baseload power plants to remain economically viable.
