"King Coal" has even further to fall, according to Moody's Investors Service.
A new report released yesterday shows the once-dominant fuel source will generate just 11% of American electricity at the end of the next decade. Coal dropped over the past decade from more than half of the national power supply to an estimated 24% this year.
The trend of natural gas and, to a lesser extent, renewables replacing retiring coal-fired power plants shows no signs of stopping, Moody's analyst Benjamin Nelson< said.
