The European Union set a goal for 20 percent renewable energy by 2020, and according to reports which have them producing 17.5 percent in 2017, the continent is on track to reach its energy goals. However, individually, the countries have different stories. The Netherlands is lagging well behind it's goals of 25 percent by 2025; France has also fallen behind, but has increased investments in nuclear energy. Germany is on track for its goal of 18 percent by 2020, and has committed to shutting down all nuclear plants by 2022.
