A new passive system that functions essentially like a high-tech parasol prevents heating in direct sunlight, according to MIT researchers. With the system, a small strip of metal is suspended above the device and blocks the sun’s direct rays. The system could lower temperatures by as much as 20 degrees Celsius (36 degrees Fahrenheit).
