Washington state's third attempt to impose a carbon tax (or fee, as its proponents called it) failed again. The illustrated map makes clear the priorities (and schisms) regarding the tax in the state. The Jefferson and Kings country are home to paper mills and technology companies. These industries are not directly affected by the tax. But other counties, such as Pierce and Whatcom, voted against the tax. The tax's proponents are not backing down and have said that they will push for a similar measure in Olympia, the state's capital, "where we know we have legislative champions who are prepared to keep pushing on this issue."
