The Magnitude of Rooftop Solar Subsidies and Why It Matters
The American Enterprise Institute has published a paper co-authored by one of its resident scholars and a financial consultant that expresses a dim economic view of rooftop solar systems. The authors conclude that public officials should "consider reducing the favoritism bestowed on rooftop systems and instead opt for a relative investment shift toward utility-scale projects." The authors view the subsidies for rooftop systems largely as a means to build a constituency for the systems specifically and for solar power generally. Assuming one accepts their premise, is that an appropriate means to build public support?
