A duo bite the dust? AEP and Southern Co., two of the country's biggest operators of coal plants, do not plan to renew their membership to the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity. That's the good news. The bad news (or, less good news anyway) is that they intend to replace coal with natural gas. The news is a further dwindling of the coal industry's sway within the corridors of power. One could argue that this move was inevitable, given Murray Energy's bankruptcy filing.
