Green buyers have indeed changed the electric industry in profound ways by successfully taking matters into their own hands, advancing long term supply capacity outside of wholesale markets, on their own terms. Electricity industry leadership have seen the influence of these green buyers and are beginning to adapt, but the pace of convergence between green buyers and the Electricity industry players is slow. There are very few forums where a collaborative process has proven successful, where policy makers and industry stakeholders have demonstrated success in reaching a consensus solution that becomes public policy in a reasonable time-frame; The North American Energy Standards Board (NAESB) is the most successful venue, in my experience, based on real results.
REBA, Facebook, Google and other green buyers may want to consider engaging in an industry standards initiative to achieve symbiosis and create a more efficient electricity business model that meets their needs.
