A team of researchers led by Manu Mannoor and Sudeep Joshi from Stevens Institute of Technology have now generated bionic mushrooms patterned with energy-producing bacteria and an electrode network. Their findings were outlined in the American Chemical Society journal Nano Letters. The energy comes from a symbiotic relationship between button mushrooms and cyanobacteria. The mushroom provides shelter, moisture and nutrients, while bacteria 3D-printed on the mushroom's cap create energy by photosynthesis. How much interest do you have in such experiements? What do you think of them: helpful or a waste of time?
