Can utilities make customers pay wildfire costs? Regulators delay decision
Utilities in wildfire-stricken California are awaiting a ruling from the California Public Utilities Commission about whether they can recoup some of the expenses they incurred in wildfire by passing along those costs to consumers. What makes the issue especially interesting is that the utilities' equipment may have sparked some of the fires. Voting has been repeatedly delayed and is now scheduled for Nov. 30. As might be expected, there's significant opposition to what the utilities seek.
