ScottMadden: Helps Client with Outage Cost Control Reporting

ScottMadden, Inc. - 01.30.2012

ScottMadden, Inc., a leading general management consulting firm, recently assisted a nuclear generator in developing and implementing leading practice cost controls for their upcoming power uprate outage, using Earned Value Management techniques.

Our client decided to implement a very rigorous cost management process to an upcoming outage. As part of this, senior management also requested the design of a daily outage cost reporting tool. They directed that this tool leverage industry best practices and incorporate Earned Value Management (EVM) concepts. EVM provides the ability for project managers to identify schedule and cost issues earlier in the project life cycle so they can positively react to any variances.

With upfront guidance from ScottMadden, the client was successful in developing this tool for their upcoming outage. The client reports it was easy to produce valuable daily information, incorporating data from existing financial and outage software programs. “The Earned Value concept is an extremely valuable tool for all utilities to incorporate into their project controls process,” says Sean Lawrie, director at ScottMadden. “This concept also provides extremely high value to senior leaders as they oversee and manage regularly scheduled outages and major capital projects.”

For nearly 30 years, ScottMadden has been a leader in energy consulting, serving more than 200 energy organizations, including 90% of the top 20, and has completed thousands of successful projects.
