Overview of Electricity Distribution in Europe

Capgemini has carried out its 2008 European Benchmarking study on the cost of efficiency of European electricity distribution companies based on 46 Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) in 13 European Union countries out of 15. Due to deregulation the Electricity and Gas Value Chain has become very fragmented and DNOs need to precisely control distribution costs. In this report Capgemini has used an econometric model in order to adjust the impact of a DNO’s structural characteristics and non-controllable variables, and to enable comparisons between different DNOs.
